My name is Sandra Kellerhals and this blog was one of the requirements for my HIST 389: History of Animation class at George Mason University.   Since the class has ended, I decided to keep the blog site and add things that interest me as I find them.

The history behind the making of animation surprised me.  I never really took the time to look at the social commentary and historical background of  animation I had  previously watched.  The production of hand drawn and stop action animation intrigued me.  Even though I knew “in the back of my mind” that this animation was work intensive, I never realized that it took years not months to accomplish a film I watched in less than two hours.

I think the most important thing I will take away from this class is that animation is not just entertainment.  It is a commentary on not only the social and historical life around us, but a comment on the values that we may or may not hold.
